Chipmunk is a solo rapper, and was also member of the grime collective, Circular Movements, and is from Tottenham, England. He is best known by the stage name Chipmunk, which started as a nickname given to him by an older boy on the estate where he grew up, referring to the unusual shape of his teeth. He chose to use the name Chipmunk after the older boy was killed as a way of rememberance.
While co-presenting Switch on BBC Radio 1, Chipmunk stated that he would eventually change his stage name, possibly to Mr. Munk (an alias which he already uses). He won the Best UK Newcomer at the MOBO Awards 2008. He also won Best Hip-Hop Act at the MOBO Awards 2009, overcoming US mega-stars such as Jay-Z, Kanye West and Eminem.
Back in July, Chipmunk hit the charts once more, when he released Diamond Rings through Jive/Columbia, gaining him a number 6 single. He then went onto finish his A-Levels, gaining himself a B, C and D (not bad for someone who took his exams in the middle of recording, touring and promoting!).
Currently, Chipmunk's relationship with some of the devoted grime fans isn't well, many have dubbed him a sellout after his transition from Grime to Pop Music. But with his popularity rising every week, he’s bound to win a few hearts back with his charm and talent!
He'll be releasing his next single Oopsy Daisy on the 5th Oct and his hotly anticapated debut album, I AM CHIPMUNK, will be hitting stores on 12th Oct.
